Hebrew Voices #202 – Death and Rebirth of Hebrew

With research of the grammar of the Cochin Brit Chadashah, evidence has surfaced that Yeshu’a HaMashiach was speaking Ivrit on the cross. But when did influence of Aramaic overcome the Roman dominance? I have heard that Rome was sacked close to, or in the year 400AD, and the Ishmaelites gained their freedom from Aram in 622AD.

Obviously it appears to be Aramaic in some sources but was it that to begin with or is that what was put in later?

I always enjoy and learn so much from your podcast discussions but this one was hard. This gentleman seemed rather disrespectful and condescending in his opinion of people who study Torah as opposed to studying Talmud or Mishna. While I think there is much to be learned of interest and context from these extra biblical sources, they are not the Word of Yehovah. Why should I want to study and revere above scripture what someone said about what someone said about what someone said about scripture. That makes no sense to me. You were far more gracious in your response than I felt listening to his comments.
Anyway I think he is wrong about Yeshua speaking Aramaic from the cross. Why would they have had to translate it if everyone was speaking it (that is to say). And why in the very next sentence would some people think he was calling out to Elijah?
