Hi David, how does that portion of Jeremiah prefigure any corruption of the LXX, or of any text for that matter? It reads to me as though the author is just informing us that Jeremiah replaced the inspired written record Jehoichim had destroyed… and he included additional inspired words as well.

Also, didn’t the apostles frequently write on the basis of the LXX? Why, the entire gospel of John is arguably written to diaspora Israelite believers, and John signals this be starting right off (John 1:1b) by using the same Greek idiom (pros ton Theon) the Septuagint writers used for Moishe, to refer to Yehoshua; it seems that the writer expected his audience to be familiar with the LXX, and to recognize the idiom right away, since John’s whole point of writing the gospel seems to be that Yehoshua is the Deuteronomy 18 one like Moses who would fulfill Moses and, like Moses, establish a new spiritual economy for the people of God.

The writer to the Hebrew believers appears to liberally reference LXX language, as does the apostle Shaul.

Since I do accept the inspired authorship of the apostolic writings, I also accept those writers’ usages of the contemporaneous LXX.

Of course, I am not saying that everything in the LXX id without error. For example, compared to the Hebrew, the LXX rendering of Genesis 1-11 involves too many years (forcing antediluvian ancestors of Noah to live through the flood!) and the Adam-Noah itself genealogy looks problematic.

Trying to understand, not able to. Is it that they don’t understand what Jesus said about baptism? Giving verse 23 of chapter 11 then going back to verse 4 of the same chapter into saying they don’t understand. The thing which they understood not was not Jesus but the Father’s words from heaven until the third time.

After verse 23, Jesus continues and says how to baptize with immersion.
Michael Rood from Rood Awakening expounds on baptism and says it needs to be in a flowing river. To know a running/flowing river, look into it. Believe, its on YouTube, types of baptism.

The LXX corruption and later restoration in the reformation are prefigured here:

Jeremiah 36:32 Then took Jeremiah another roll, and gave it to Baruch the scribe, the son of Neriah; who wrote therein from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned in the fire: and there were added besides unto them many like words.

The gold plates in the temple are hidden behind greasy copper ones.

Daniel also prophesies the corruption of the bible:

Daniel 7:25 And he shall speak great words against the most High, and shall wear out the saints of the most High, and think to change times and laws: and they shall be given into his hand until a time and times and the dividing of time.

The most fascinating parts of the book of Mormon for me are the first two verses and the description of baptism in 3 Nephi 11.

Is this not describing the priestly blessing?

11:23 Verily I say unto you, that whoso repenteth of his sins through your words, and desireth to be baptised in my name, on this wise shall ye baptize them — Behold, ye shall go down and stand in the water, and in my name shall ye baptize them.

But the description of this is prefaced by what seems to me an indication that they don’t understand Jesus’ words:

11:4 And it came to pass that again they heard the voice, and they understood it not.

which seems to me to stand today, in that the LDS church teaches that they don’t follow the book of Moses, and seem to regard it as unimportant, when the whole BOM begins with:

I NEPHI, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my prooceedings in my days.
2 Yea, I make a record in the language of my father, which consists of the learning of the Jews and the language of the Egyptians.

O How the meaning of baptism is not understood without the knowledge of heavenly waters!

Did not Peter prophesy as much:

2 Peter 3
1 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.
5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:
6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:
7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

It’s helpful to distinguish the truth of the message from the truth and integrity of the messenger.

If we take the revelation at the start of this video to be true, the the value is in book of Mormon itself.

This is Samuel’s rebuke to the people that desired a leader:

1 Samuel 12:12 And when ye saw that Nahash the king of the children of Ammon came against you, ye said unto me, Nay; but a king shall reign over us: when the LORD your God was your king.
