I was just thinking about this passage regarding the duty of Christians to defend and protect each other from the Islamic Jihad, when I saw 100 were slain for sport in Nigeria. A few years ago, they began to exterminate the Igbo tribe in Nigeria, and upon killing the police and military, came out to kill without any resistance. Many Christians are of the false perspective that they should die without resistance for the Gosple. But that is not how Israel was sent to gain the Promised Land, nor is it righteous for people to permit or allow murder and theft.

You mentioned some difficulty with 27:7. I read Isaiah 24-28 as a single long prophecy. It seems to me that 27:7 must be referring back to 27:1 where Yehovah slew Leviathan, the great serpent in the sea, the symbol of death. It also mentions that He will “swallow up Death” in 25:8. Both are songs about Yehovah saving his people by bringing an end to a plague of death, which I believe to be some sort of disease, based on 25:7, 26:20, and 28:18-19. Though I can’t know for sure what the fulfillment of this prophecy will be, I must admit I can’t help thinking of COVID when I read it.

The translation for Isaiah 27:6-7 in the Complete Jewish Translation by David Stern is: The time is coming when Ya’akov will take root; Isra’el will bud and flower, and fill the whole world with a harvest. Yehovah will not strike Isra’el, as he did others who struck Isra’el; he will not kill them, as he did the others.

In previous verses it talked about. Israel being protected..
I feel they this verse is stating that if someone attacks jacob/ israel it’s like they are attacking him (Yehova), so he has to defend what God considers to be part of his own being.

So, what was the sin that caused Israel to be out of the land for 1900 years?

Isaiah 27:13 is clearly the verse that ties in Jacob and his descendants to Egypt and the impending Exodus in this Prophet Pearl, Shemot. v13 in Isaiah 27, “they shall come ready to perish in the land of Assyria” echoes the reference to Jacob in Deut. 26: 5, when “A Syrian, ready to perish, was my father, and he went down into Egypt…” What happened before… will happen again… “ready to perish,” “outcasts in Egypt,” gathered to worship YeHoVaH again on his “holy mount…” HalleluYaH!

For the record, I looked up the word translated “man” from the Hebrew and found that the same word is also used to describe the animals of Noah’s ark. So, this word is not exclusively human. It can mean “male.”

Re: what is verse 7 of Isa 27 talking about, if you look at the beginning of 27, “1In that day Jehovah with his hard and great and strong sword will punish leviathan the swift serpent, and leviathan the crooked serpent; and he will slay the monster that is in the sea.” ASV since 2 to 6 is a section, the next section, is in reference through Gods Action in verse one. “7Hath he smitten them as he smote those that smote them? or are they slain according to the slaughter of them that were slain by them?” so he’s asking what God has done to those who had done things to Jacobs descendants.

And now in January of 2018… as I listen to this that was recorded 3 years ago… I praise Yehovah for how much has been done politically to pave the way for the song Nehemia sang to be fulfilled! Yehovah’s timing IS always perfect. Praise Yehovah!

It seems to me that much confusion can be avoided by using the specific name of the god of Israel, the god of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, which in Hebrew scripture is spelled out by the letters yod+hey+vav+hey, pronounced Ye-ho-vah. I think that’s where the Anglicization “Jehovah” came from, there being no letter corresponding to the English “J” in Hebrew. That is, if YHVH is the god to which you refer and whose commandments you observe. Otherwise, keep on saying whatever euphemism suits you. Zechariah 13:9 says “they will invoke Me by name.” Zech. 14:9 says “one YHVH with one name.” Today’s Jews never speak the name, and the Christians don’t even know it.

Where is this book of Yasher?

YHVH has no begotten son but has said (Jer.31:9) “For I am ever a father to Israel, Ephraim is My first born….” Further, righteous as he was, Jesus’ last name isn’t “Christ.”

The word translated “fruit” obviously refers to the fruit of the womb. The same word appears in Exodus 21:22 (KJV) describing a miscarriage, where the woman’s fruit departs from her.

Years ago, when I bought tomatoes grown in Israel at the grocery store in New Hampshire, Isaiah 27:6 came to mind immediately.

I know this is several weeks late, but I wanted to be absolutely sure about my thoughts. I’ve decided that I am and am now ready to post.

Verse 6 – When those who come to Jacob shall uproot, Israel shall blossom and fill the earth with fruit

Call me crazy but it seems to me that the verse is talking about the day that Israel will be scattered to the four corners of the earth. Why? For several reasons. First, Israel still multiplied (filling the earth with “fruit”) even in the diaspora. Second, even though many don’t want to admit it, Yehovah’s chosen people blessed the lands they have inhabit in many ways, “filling them [those countries] with fruit.” While I still am unsure about what verse 6 and 7 really mean, taken with the rest of the passage listed as the haftarah, it seems that they are referring to the fact that Israel will be scattered but not decimated as those who do the scattering will be decimated, and while they are in the diaspora, Yehovah will use them to fill the whole earth with His glory, perhaps even through the mere presence of His people throughout the whole earth, but also through their numerous contributions to the lands in which they will be scattered. And in the end (verse 13), Yehovah will bring them back, along with others He has personally chosen.

The Wilderness narrative is replete with judgments, both FINAL and enduring. We have several incidents that are presented as “final” as they result in the non-deferred death of the transgressors. From Datan & Aviram to Pinchas executing a son of Israel, judgement takes on many faces during the wilderness trek. However, I have failed for the longest time to consider the OFFSPRING of that generation that left Egypt. The children experienced most of these individual and collective judgments as they witnessed them and had to dispose of the dead. Rav Sha’ul mentions those whose bodies were “strewn across the wilderness”. The one’s that survived the wilderness trek carried with them the memory of each incident and I can’t help but wonder if ” limping ” might be a suitable description emotionally of the ones who crossed over with Y’hoshua.

The survivors, if you’ll bear with me, had to witness the tragic interventions and the lingering effects of each incident. Most of us would agree that any one or two incidents, beit Korach or those whom Moshe confronted when he came down from Sinai, would be enough emotional baggage to lug to the final destination, yes ? I think we tend to read and study judgment on the immediate or short term model and all too often, miss the “lingering” lessons, dynamics and results that the survivors were left to reconcile.

Yesha’Yahu seems to make this comparison of ; KILL ( non-deferred ) or EXILE ( lingering ) , as to how punishment plays out. The Wilderness Exile ( result of the ten spies ) is quite interesting as the survivor may not be guilty of a given transgression but they are required to live with the consequences that others imposed upon them. Moreover, most do not see that the punishment of the Ten Spies in the Wilderness was in fact, a type of EXILE as a “TIME SENTENCE” had to be served. Many folks who survive a collective tragic event struggle with guilt as SURVIVORS. So , Israel is not struck as Yahovah struck “others ” but Israel is given a lingering consequence, Exile. Exile opens the door to many more problems. My Sephardic ancestors learned this lesson well.

Isaiah prophecies of the destruction and regathering of YHVH’s seeds in these verses.
We indeed, the chosen righteous seed of Yehovah are being “winnowed” from the whole of the diaspora that has been cast across the earth. We are being collected at present. the restoration of HIS people is in process. We are being called, threshed, and blow by HIS wind back into fertile ground, where they will be reseeded into his righteous people.

my thoughts:

If vs 6 is part of the previous passage, then YHVH is explaining how they (Jacob) will make peace with HIm. Jacob (a metaphor for the covenant people) will root out or uproot those who do not care about serving Him. THEREFORE, Israel (true covenant followers) will bud and blossom (the rest of vs 6).

vs 7 Did YHVH deal with Israel like He did with their enemies? Has she (Israel) been killed like those were killed who were Israel’s enemies (that tried to kill her)? rhetorical question and the obvious answer is “no”. He has not wiped Israel off the face of the earth like He has her enemies. No Hittites, Peruzites, Amorites, etc left identifiable today.

Why is He saying this? Because YHVH has a fruitful vineyard (vs 3) that HE takes care of and guards it (keeps it) even if she is unfaithful, HE will keep His promise.

vs 8 YHVH has continually punished (banished into exile) His children who disobey Him. He promised to vomit them from the land and bring curses. He has done this.

vs 9-11 This is describing how YHVH brought this judgment to pass….by destroying their land, their Temple, their altar, and their Levitical (joining) system. If the people will not forsake their idols (following Rabbis as well as following other gods and their teaching) He will do it Himself….LITERALLY! Israel is that important. His promise is that important. He will do whatever it takes to bring them into covenant but He is going to weed out those who are enemies to Him; Jacob or Israel (both used as metaphors).

The land became desolate, a dry wasteland with little or no vegetation….a stark contrast to “flowing with milk and honey.” Describes how the land of Israel has looked for the last several centuries (that we know of) but is sprigging forth now back to what it used to be “a fertile valley” “flowing with milk and honey”.

vs 12-13 Agree with your thoughts wholeheartedly. We have been Torah observant since YHVH showed us His truth in 2011. We came from a life long Baptist background and now, FINALLY, we understand the plan. We were struck with “blindness and confusion of mind”, the exact curse described for our Torah disobedience in Deut. 28:28, BUT now we see. WE HAVE RETURNED (repented)! Praise YAH!

The real message for all, is to look at this prophetic fulfillment time in our history. What happened in the 1st century? Not only was the temple destroyed but what else happened? Daniel says sin was dealt with once for all.(Dan 9) He does not say that people will no longer sin because we know that continuing in sin is the very reason this judgement happened and Israel suffered banishment. But He says that the enemy “sin” has come to its end. How is that possible? What has happened in the human heart that the propensity to sin is replaced by something else? Jeremiah explains it. Torah, that was before on tablets of stone in the Holy Place is now inside us, written on the hearts of those whom YHVH has promised, as a result of their “returning” (repentance). All the verses put together point to something all encompassing and prophetic happening in the first century. And it wasn’t just judgment. It was much more than that. Many more verses have to be considered. In fact, Daniel also says “in the time of those kings” (of Roman empire, 4th beast of dream), something incredible happened! It was a game changer. It turned the whole trajectory around and the prophesy of Daniel 2 is undeniable., not only WHAT would happen but also WHEN it happened. A Kingdom began. One that will endure forever. One that dashed the others to pieces. This happened ALREADY….even though it’s obviously spiritual now….the Bible still describes it as happened already. The “dashing to pieces” and “everlasting” nature of this Kingdom is also the description of the Son of Man coming into the presence of the Ancient of Days in Daniel 7. As well as the Son who does both of these things in Psalm 2. Quite undeniable what this is talking about, when it happened and the significance of Zech 12:10 confirming Isaiah 53.

…. Jacob was renamed Israel ~ true? Judea is what is returning to the land ~ true? Judea and Israel are not the same… true? Thus two separate houses. Yet He says He scattered them and scattered … to the edges of the earth. He divorced Israel .. yet sent / gave His only son to die for her ~ (those to whom Christ sent the apostles to – to spread the good news of His return i.e. the house of Israel) thus redeeming her ( the lost scattered tribes ) so Christ includes her for His bride. WE can not forget those that may have been “fruit” of the Queen of Sheba after her time with King Solomon … Fruit as meaning children.

Egypt … was the land … Egypt is also a term used for ” being in captivity” … To see more of this we need to look at both Jacob, Judea … and Esau. Our Great God the Most High is calling HIS children home … but …. He has to show not just Israel who they are … but as I said before … to those who say are Jews and are not. If this is not addressed the land and it’s people will suffer…

To me,when I read chapters 26&27, it looks like that monster of pride Livyatan (there’s a good description in Iyov) will be slayed by Yehovah. I see this as being a beautiful description of rescue forgiveness and salvation when the descendants of Ya’akov and Israel will take root and flower. He will make atonement for us and bring us back to Him. He will do it.

You say the article was taken from another source in which you fully agree. That source can only stand if Isaiah 14:14 is read in context. If read in context the assumption that this is talking about satan is incorrect thus causing your stalk of cards to come tumbling down.

Take of your eisegeses glasses and you will see that verse 16 clearly identifies this as a mere man with delusions of greatness and human ruler during the time of Isaiah.

“eisegeses” an interpretation, especially of Scripture, that expresses the interpreter’s own ideas, bias, or the like, rather than the meaning of the text.

Reading out of context can cause extreme speculation and thus a whole new theology is born.

In 2 Corinthians 4:4, Satan is alluded to as “the God of this world,” and indeed he is! He has seized the dominion of this earth from Adam and subtly set himself up or enthroned himself as “the God of this world” to be worshipped–He said this before his fall, “I will mount on the hills of the clouds, I will match the Most High!” Isaiah 14:14. Now that he has overtaken planet earth he is doing just that. Paul referring to Satan put it thus: “Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called ELOHIM, or that is worshipped; so that he is God sitteth in the temple of ELOHIM, shewing himself that he is God.” 2 Thessalonians 2:3,4. So, like it or not, knowingly or otherwise, when anyone prays or says god, he is in effect, unwittingly praying to Satan, or calling on him. By distinction, our Heavenly Father, YaHWeH ELOHIM is Echad (One) and there is no other ELOHIM besides Him. Could you see the striking difference? There are many Gods but only One ELOHIM, Hallelu YaH!

“God” is a highly deceptive profanity used by both Jews and Christians as in ALL religions for false worship. The Jews spell it G_D, the Christians “GOD or God” and the pagans and all other religions “god,” or “gods.”.” Whichever way you spell it, and however you say or pronounced it, it is still the same; it is God; it is Satan in disguise; it is a deception of the highest order. What difference does the spelling made? They are all god; and they all refers to the one who sets himself up as “the God of this world”–Satan–to be worshipped. Here is a solid example of how Satan gave fallen man religion–with himself as God–and fallen man use religious teachings to fool their fellow fallen man. Satan is behind them all; he conquers them all; he captivates them all; and, he deceives them all… Revelation 12:9.

Couldn’t agree more. Its like, when discussing it with them, they always take “their understanding” of Paul’s writings without the context, without the situation, reason, why did the Paul write it like that and put it above the actual law.
What is most interesting that a lot has been saved, f.e. one of the reasons for the Schism between Roman-Catholic and the Orthodox was that the Orthodox still celebrated the Sabbath at that time (that was changed a while later)

Christian orthodoxy has done this with their twisting and turning of the apostle Paul’s writings in the NT.It is in my view their imposition of ‘oral law’ on the writers of the NT.
The ‘church fathers’ fulfill the same role that Rabbinic Judaism does. The plain written Law of God is sidelined and in many cases ridiculed as ‘works’ salvation’ by their theology. Especially the Sabbath Commandment.

Reference Isaiah 27.7 with two sets of three consecutive same root words. Happened to come across three same root words in one verse today in my regular bible reading. Mark 4.24 (also found in Matt 7 and Luke 6)”with whatever measure you measure, it will be measured to you”. μέτρῳ I wonder what an analogous Hebrew root would be, and when it is first used.

CONTEXT:
Isaiah is probably writing this some 6 to 10 years before the fall of Israel, or the 10 northern tribes. Some 120 years before the fall of Judah.

It seems to me that when Jacob is mentioned along with Egypt that would be better correlated with the time of Slavery and the Exodus? So the smitten may be better seen when God tells Abraham that Israel will be enslaved for 400 years and then He will smite those that have smitten Jacob?

While we also can use any other applications, we know for sure that the Assyrians will surely have a part in the SIN of Israel in the next couple of years:

1 Kings 14:
15 “For the LORD will strike Israel, as a reed is shaken in the water; and He will uproot Israel from this good land which He gave to their fathers, and will scatter them beyond the [Euphrates] River, because they have made their Asherim, provoking the LORD to anger.
16 “He will give up Israel on account of the sins of Jeroboam, which he committed and with which he made Israel to sin.”

I have learned from Nehemia’s constant reminder, “if it does not say it, don’t add to it”.

That being said, we can apply to POETRY what scriptures use the same phrases and words since a Poetic Verse is exactly that!

About Prophet Pearls 13 – Shemot – Isaiah 27:6-28:13; 29:22-23
“the smiting of the smiter who smites…”
Yah will have vengeance on those who do these things with the same way they smite, He will smite them, except we know from other verses that His smiting will be double.
This is my understanding.

About the Asherim, have you seen those statues of Mary in the yards of the Catholics? Statures of Ashera/Diana/Guadalupe/Easter/Ishtar’Mary etc… and yes, they did worship on groves like the Druids. They worship creation not the Creator.

Mt 11:29 – Yes, Yeshua’s message was not against the Torah; it was to the Pharisees (today’s Orthodox Rabbis) about their oral traditions, which were such a heavy burden on the people. He was pointing the way back to the Torah and for the people to cast off the burden of the thousands of oral (Rabbinical, i.e., man made) edicts. To return to the Torah which Yehovah Sabaoth made so easy a seven year old child could begin to understand and follow from one reading every seven years. Yeshua’s “Easy Yoke” was the Torah and Yeshua’s “Light Burden” was Yehovah’s instructions.

Yeshua’s message still applies to many if not all organized religions and their man made traditions.

My impression of Prophet Pearls 13 is that this is the process by which Jacob will be saved. The beginning verses seem to state how and why God will do what He will do. He does not destroy Jacob as He does the enemies of Jacob. He uproots and then re-plants Jacob. Then He shows how Jacob must repent and have his iniquity purged: a deep repentance. The example of Moses beating the golden calf to powder comes to mind. 27: 10-11 briefly describes the state Jacob is in while he has been uprooted. Then Isa. continues the prophecy of the restoration. The great trumpet is blown and Jacob returns.
Isa. 28:1-13 summarizes the process of Jacob’s repentance, contrasting two types of people: those who hear the word and continue in it and those who hear the word and fall back into sin. 29: 22-24 shows the end result, that even those who erred in spirit have been brought to understanding, repentance and salvation, and now fear the God of Israel.

I think Is. 27:7 can be interpreted (parenthesis mine) as:
“Has he (Yehovah) struck them (Israel) as he (Yehovah) struck those who struck them? Or have they been slain as their slayers were slain?” I think it shows that Yehovah will discipline his children…but w/more severity those who persecute them!

its really interesting how in all denominations of the world there are people who speak of this “oral law” and give it a place above the tanakh, when in this simple prophet portion it speaks against it, against interpreting and putting it “commandment by commandement, measure by measure”…
there were people like that during Isaiah’s life and there are people like that, in our, current lives. Really astounding

Isa 27:7 may have to do with what we read in the book of Yasher 64 before the Egyption decree to kill the Israelis male children.

Starting in vs 45 Wherefore did you go from us and leave us, being a few people, to fight against these kings who had a great people to smite us, that you might thereby deliver your own souls?

46 And of some which the Israelites met on the road, they the children of Israel spoke to each other, saying, Smite, smite, for he is an Ishmaelite, or an Edomite, or from the children of Chittim, and they stood over him and slew him, and they knew that he was an Egyptian.

47 And the children of Israel did these things cunningly against the Egyptians, because they had deserted them in battle and had fled from them.

48 And the children of Israel slew of the men of Egypt in the road in this manner, about two hundred men.

49 And all the men of Egypt saw the evil which the children of Israel had done to them, so all Egypt feared greatly the children of Israel, for they had seen their great power, and that not one man of them had fallen.

50 So all the children of Israel returned with joy on their road to Goshen, and the rest of Egypt returned each man to his place.

But….. it would be good to go back and read in Yashser starting in Chp 63 to 64 to get the context of the story.

YHVH’s smitting is to serve as an example,correction, to turn back someone back to him and away from Satan’s ways.
This is vastly different from destruction for destruction sake. What do we see with radical groups.Kill kill maim,maim.It’s destruction.
YHVH’s slain are slain to show that they hold to him, and his way(have faith)and they will be resurrected back to life. Whereas,those slain for being denying, having disbelief or non-belief, rebellion against YHVH will be given a final death.

A measuring line is still important. In that the line keeps the stones, bricks, walls straight so it does not become crooked, weak, fall over from careless ,slipshod construction of a building. Who wants or needs a building that will fall over and crush those who it was suppose to protect.

I fell asleep erev shabbath part way through the presentation, so please excuse my half-baked comment. I have noticed the same puzzling pattern in most Tanak poetry as in the first couple verses. It seems that a comprehensive literal meaning is simply less important to the writer than making the words fit the form of the poetry. It seems that the “feel” of the words increase in importance with poetry, while the cerebral understanding of them is allowed to diminish. A deep love of languages, was the hook this scattered remnant fish chomped on, just like you! Uri Harel’s “Learn Hebrew Through Scripture” online class fixed my eyes on Gen 1:3 in Hebrew. TORAH, with obedience to His Appointed Times, is YHVH’s call to me to “Come out of her, my child,”! I know YAHUSHUAH Ha’MASHIACH is TORAT CHAYYIM.
Uzo eleikha eshmora ki ELOHIM misgabi.”

Teach about “b’yom hahu” please! It’s in Isa 27 a grand total of 4 times, and I’m instructed that each time that is seen on scripture, it refers to a Lev23 Appointed Time.
And I MUST be taught the song you sang, Nehemiah, verse 13! I will sing it too, I must I must!

This one really spoke to me, because I am one of “the called out ones!” I literally heard a voice saying “Learn My Holy Scriptures in the language it was originally written … Hebrew” back in 2006. As I speak with others who have had the same desire to learn Hebrew … the timing has been very similar! ALL I CAN SAY IS …THERE ARE NO COINCIDENCES WITH YAHOVEH! IT IS ALSO SO OVERWHELMING and AMAZING TO THINK WE ARE ALL A PART OF THE RESTORATION PROCESS IN THE END OF DAYS!
